Salt is a good thing for Koi ponds, but only pure salt. Yellow prussiate of soda (sodium ferrocyanide) is sometimes added to salt to prevent caking. It can kill Koi. Make sure you are adding pure salt. 0.1% to 0.3% salt is the usual range for ponds. Over 0.3% salt may hurt plants. If your pond is 1,000 gallons, which is 8,333 pounds, 0.1% salt would be 8.33 pounds, 0.3% salt would be 25 pounds. |
